Avoiding Component Incompatibility in Custom PC Builds in Réunion
The most common and costly mistake in custom PC building is purchasing components with mismatched sockets or memory generations. Intel's LGA1700 socket uses land grid array pins on the motherboard that precisely mate to the contact pads on Raptor Lake and Alder Lake processors. AMD's AM5 uses a PGA-style socket with 1718 pins. The two are entirely incompatible — an Intel CPU physically cannot mount into an AM5 board.
DDR4 and DDR5 memory modules use different key notch positions to prevent wrong installation, but selecting an incorrect generation in the BIOS configurator is a common source of no-boot issues. Modern Z790 and X670E motherboards are DDR5-only — they will not accept DDR4 sticks at all.
